Angel’s Charity UK- Welly Beat School’s Challenge
This half term has been a really exciting and different experience for the slanteddance team. Garrick Green Infant School have used slanteddance as their dance curriculum PE deliverers for a few years now but this term was different…
We have been working on the Angel’s Charity UK’s Welly Beat Schools Challenge.
Andy Day (from Cbeebies) wrote the ‘Angels Welly Beat’, which is a song based on the old South African gumboot (wellington boots) tradition and the street kids showed him how to do the dance. Our challenge was to learn the welly beat moves and then create a dance film that was as creative as we could be! Jessica has been working with the whole school (Reception-Year 2) on learning the set chorus and then creating the classes’ own sections.
Last week Bryony went in and filmed the school in as many scenario’s as possible. It was a fun day exploring ways to perform the dance sections in various parts of the school, as well as persuading the staff and dinner ladies to join in with the funky moves!
This was a great experience for the school and very different to what the kids are used to. They found it a little confusing when filming as it was in sections rather than doing a whole dance in one go like they are used too. However, seeing their faces when they watched the edited film made it all click into place and they loved it! We are now entered into the welly beat competition so wish us luck and watch this space…!
